Morning Sun's Beginning
The Cemetery

The cemetery came into being in 1852 when the Cumberland Presbyterians and Southern Presbyterians joined resources to buy the land. Morning Sun Cemetery is located across the street from MSCPC and the Church is responsible for its upkeep.
The Battle of Morning Sun took place on June 30, 1862 when confederate forces attacked a federal wagon train.
Just days after the battle there were two different versions of the event and it is likely that the soldiers buried in the cemetery are not Union but Confederate soldiers.

Morning Sun Annual Homecoming BBQ
Morning Sun has been known for its barbeque since 1948. The tradition began with the hogs being cooked in a large hole dug in the ground. Now the hogs can be slow cooked in a screen enclosed brick pit large enough to hold 10 whole hogs! Morning Sun still holds an annual barbequel. As this is a continuing tradition more information can be found on the “programs” page! Join us for our next barbeque and come see for yourself what all the rage about Morning Suns BBQ is!
